Cedarmere

In 1843, William Cullen Bryant purchased his home at Cedarmere in Roslyn Harbor, Long Island, to escape the pressures of working in New York City. Here he created many additions to the original farm building and wrote poetry inspired by the peaceful scenery. Bryant lived at Cedarmere until his death in 1878. Cedarmere is now part of the New York State Underground Railroad Heritage Trail and is open to the public. For more information, visit Nassau Library Site, or Nassau County Parks Site.
